Huawei Watch 2 with Android Wear 2.0 leaks ahead of official launch at MWC
Huawei has confirmed that it will launch the P10 flagship smartphone and the second-gen Huawei Watch 2 at MWC, on February 26. The original Huawei Watch was announced in September 2015, and the launch of the second-generation device was delayed due to Android Wear 2.0.
According to a new report by VentureBeat, the Watch 2 from Huawei will have a sportier look and offer cellular connectivity. The smartwatch will of course run on Android Wear 2.0, but will miss out on the rotating crown seen on the new LG Watch Sport. The renders confirm that the watch will be made available in black, orange and grey colour variants.
Android Wear 2.0 was made official by Google on February 8. The search giant made the latest wearable platform available on LG's Watch Sport and Watch Style. With Android Wear 2.0, Google is finally making its wearable platform more independent. Android Wear 2.0 adds support for a dedicated Play Store, and developers can now build apps directly for smartwatches. The platform also brings support for Android Pay and Google Assistant. The second iteration of Android Wear also brings UI changes and improved support for workouts.
Android Wear 2.0 is still very new, and aims to catch up with Apple Watch and Samsung's Tizen-based Gear S3 on the platform front. The original Huawei Watch was one of the best-designed Android smartwatches, and the company will hope to replicate that with its next version.
